ND1 NDF/NDR interface

The Kronback Tracers ND1 is placed in the CCAP CORE for NDF/NDR - narrowband digital forward/return interfacing. It consists of a NDF channel (70 to 1218 MHz) and multiple NDR channels (5 to 204 MHz). The NDF channel transmits one narrowband range to the RPD up to 25,6 MHz, including the full FM band 87.5 to 108 MHz. The NDR receives up to three narrowband signals from the RPD with a bandwidth up to 5,12MHz These three bands can be placed agile in the full return path spectrum from 5 to 204 MHz, and can be digitally combined from up to 16 simultaneous RPD inputs. The ND1 can also receive FFT spectrum data from the RPD, turning the ND1 in to a fully featured return path monitoring system. Because the ND1 has a multi channel FSK demodulation functionality, it offers full HMS gateway (HMTS) operation. The ND1 can be synchronized from a local 10 MHz input or from IEEE 1588 PTP network protocol.

Digital combining
Up to three NDR channels from up to16 RPY inputs can be digitally combined. This provides a more efficient and effective way of interfacing remote RF bands to legacy equipment in the CORE. The only limiting factor in this combining is the noise from the return path inputs, and the allocated L2TP bandwidth. The ND1 outputs the NDR signal to the allocated F connector on the ND1 front. The three NDR channels can be agile placed within the full return path band of 5 to 204 MHz.

Return path spectrum analyzer
The Kronback Tracers ND1 return path analyzer provides real-time and history spectrum analysis. The return path range is 3-204 MHz Groups of ND1 units can monitor an unlimited number of return paths within each headend. The ND1 is accessed via all major web browsers and can also be controlled from smartphones and tablets. Multiple concurrent users can access individual return path signals simultaneously with history logging of all return paths is performed.

NMS Gateway
Internal software FSK demodulators and generator provides full NMS operation, turning the ND1 in to a full featured HMTS. A software generated FSK channel provides the downstream HMS signal, and each NDR signal can be monitored for FSK activity. A powerful squelch feature ensures that the ND1 is capable of rejecting unwanted noise and spurs from the return spectrum. Support of both HMS and proprietary protocols is provided and can even be combined with a powerful web based HFC topology view.

NDF Fail over
The NDF input of the ND1 has two connectors, A and B. In the case of missing RF on one of the inputs, or in case of planned maintenance the opposite connector can be activated for minimal interruptions.

IEEE 1588 reference
The ND1 can receive reference from a dedicated 10 MHz clock source or from a IEEE 1588 reference.
